Cult of Tarot Deck?

Post by AstralPasta »

Anyone remember Aeclectic's community tarot decks? I still use them online when I'm somewhere away from home and bored, or just because it's easy.

I'm surprised at how it's made an impact on me. I accidentally used the new one and was confused. Like....where are the images I'm used to. I guess digital me has a tarot deck too haha. Also it's a great deck for the internet, a modge-podge collage.

Anyway, I never contributed to them! What if we did that here? That sounds like fun. Especially with all the digital art stuff that's readily available, it'd probably be easier.

Anyone down?

AstralPasta, I think this is an awesome idea. (I dislike the common usage of the word awesome but here it seems very appropriate). Collaborating on a deck is so enriching and so rewarding. And really great for the community spirit as well. Sometimes we all sort of wander around these many mansions, and as there's so many, we don't have a common meeting place. This could be one. I like that idea.

I reckon as we're not so many members, we should start out with the Majors ?

I designed two cards on the earlier ATF collective Tarots. The 4 of Cups : http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/project/3/04_cups.shtml (the mother on the photo is I think my maternal grandmother).

And then I also did an 8 of Swords : http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/project/ ... ords.shtml

I'm the worst artist in the world. Literally. I don't think there's anyone in the world who is less artistic than me. (They should at least give me a medal dammit). But I still want to participate if I may.

As for how we distribute the cards, I'll follow the majority. (Only I can't take Strength or Justice if we use the RWS numbering system. Nor the Moon because of my problems with it.)
Rumi was asked “which music sound is haram?” Rumi replied, "The sound of tablespoons playing in the pots of the rich, which are heard by the ears of the poor and hungry." (haram means forbidden)

Aaaah I’m talking with a celebrity  🧚🏾‍♂️🌈 ahahaha ✨

Wandering around mansions is such an interesting way of putting it. I agree, it can be a unifying thing and also it’d probably attract users. I’m sure that’s how some folks found Aeclectic :D

That’s a good idea. I guess depending on how many folks chime in we can have a list going of what’s been taken. Maybe we can do a dibs thing if people have favorites.

I feel like I oughta do the fool hehehe. After that I’m open.

Oooooh maybe we can do a thing where when it’s done we upload them to Makeplayingcards.com or something and profits can go to funding this website??? If anyone wanted a print copy 😁 No one would really have to do anything since it’s print on demand. I guess Joan Marie would have to set up an account and all that, but that’s easy peasy.

If we do that though, we need to be a little mindful about size, or proportions anyway. Or whatever, it’ll work out. Hah! Since folks will be using different mediums. I like this idea.

We can leave the majors unnumbered maybe? And yes, regardless of artistic ability, everyone must contribute! Bwahaha! I like your cards, they’re unique and evocative!

(I have issues with the moon too, interesting that you say this)

Okay, I can feel the excitement here.

I also just had a look and found a card picker plugin thing that would be fun and make the deck usable online.

Let me think about an organised way to go about this. It should be as easy as possible but there should be some consistency of card size I think. Maybe if it's online only it doesn't make any difference. And some kind of sign up system so people can call dibs.

Woot! 🎉 🎉🎉

And hooray for plugins! That’s great ✨

If proportions matter here’s this pdf thingy to help get folks thinking.

I really like the idea of this being able to get printed too, in regards to card size, but I’m also confident we can find flexible solutions for artists that might break the mold.

Ooh. Then we could even do YouTube unboxings. That oughta draw traffic too. Oh I’m getting ahead of myself here hahaha!

Awesome! This is gonna be great. I can feel it in me bones. 🦴

Posting here to let you guys know I'm not ignoring this. But I have to bow out.

My MS paint/gimp skills are rudimentary. I've contributed to one group project deck before, not an AT one, but one that Edmund Zebrowski got going on facebook. It was a Lenormand, and I did the Dog card. I actually painted the thing on canvas with acrylics (it would have been better if I'd used oils, but there was a bit of a time crunch) and then took it down to Office Depot to be scanned so I would have a file to send in. It was all pretty labor-intensive.

A Tarot card would be more complex - I could do that, but it would take even longer. And I have a "regular" job now, so less free time than when my entire living came from readings.

Apologies.

Well, I'm not much of an artist, but I've made an excellent Tower card and a pretty decent Sun card. I'd be happy to contribute both of them. I'd also be excited at the opportunity to make an Ace of Cups.
I believe in Crystal Light.

Radical! And I updated the list, Charlie. :)

And katrinka, no sweat! That's totally understandable. I've always wondered how that worked for canvas situations.

Hooray inomminate!

My partner wants to contribute too so he'll be making an account at some point. Haha, weird. He seemed so excited at the prospect for someone who's had to live with my rambling tarot obsessed self this past year.

I wonder if he'll do collage or markers. He's been on a collage kick, which has been cool, but his hand drawn stuff is weird and funky too.

Okay, I have an official kind of post now for this project.

I also created an online spreadsheet so everyone can see what's up.

Have a look at the post here: viewtopic.php?f=37&t=1633

The link to the spreadsheet and other details are all there.

AstralPasta, maybe I can give you access to the spreadsheet and you can help keep it updated. Let me figure that out and I'll PM you.

Charlie Brown, I think we should start with the Majors and once that's accomplished, I promise you get dibs on the Ace of Cups.
