Please give me some suggestion about choose which decks

Post by Many »

I've learned from the website class about traditional witchcraft,
and the witch at the website suggestion to choose a basic, traditional design,
which means the symbolism that been used must be logical and be an effective aid in interpreting the aspects of every individual card,
each symbol represents one aspect of that card's interpreting.
and suggestion about the rider-waite decks.

But after I review the traditional rider-waite decks on the network, I found that the symbols on these decks can't reach the suggestions that someone gave me.
and I feel nothing when I look at the traditional rider-waite decks.
I can't feel like that seems the card want to tell me something or other feelings like warm, light, dark, shadow.

so, these make me confused, how can I found decks that I've never seen??

I've found a "Deviant Moon Tarot" before, It gives me the feeling like the attack, unfamiliar, powerful, a little bit like tense, as the shadow at a place that full of sunshine, and "hungry" which means the feeling like want to swallow it down.

is this kind of feeling good for me to choose as a begin??

or

Can anyone here give suggestions about which decks can reach the suggestions that witch gives me, and makes me feel warm and light??

Thanks for all of your suggestions.

1.Deviant moon tarot
2.Shadowscapes Tarot
3.the steampunk tarot

Thanks, again.

Okay so, you're looking for decks that are clear for you to read with, that give you clear and good visual cues to go by and that you can therefore bring into your daily life yes? I think the person's advice:
"suggestion to choose a basic, traditional design,
which means the symbolism that been used must be logical and be an effective aid in interpreting the aspects of every individual card,
each symbol represents one aspect of that card's interpreting."
I a good starting point, so now you need to find a deck where you see what you need to see clearly. The person's advice on the Rider Waite Smith is good to go by because most modern deck derive from that deck. There is also the Thoth tradition and the Marseille tradition to consider as well. What is important here is that you find the deck that speaks to you clearly and that brings the feelings you are looking for to the forefront for you.

There are many versions of the Rider Waite Smith that are worth looking at:
The Radiant RWS
The Morgan Greer
The Aquarian

To name a few, here are a some good lists to start off:

Hope this is helpful.

I also wasn't quite clear if you said you liked or disliked the Deviant Moon. If you like it, there's nothing wrong with that deck.

Also, I don't know why, but I got a flash that you might like this deck.

If you really aren't feeling like you are connecting with the Rider Waite classic deck I would try something else. There are many decks based on the Rider Waite meanings but have a bit different imagery whilst keeping to the general tradition. You could try one of those. Have a browse at the online sites which show you the cards in the decks (e.g. tarot.com https://www.tarot.com/tarot/decks, acclectic tarot http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/ or others) and there are also many many deck reviews on Youtube if you find a deck you think you may like but would like to see all the cards to be sure.

If you still feel you are not finding a connection with any of them, perhaps you need to look for some slightly different ones, but that have a clear system that you can follow, so it's not too confusing at first. Don't feel pushed into getting a deck if you really don't feel you can work with it.

There are quite a number of decks with 'witchy" themes in this list: http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/pagan-wiccan.shtml Depending on the art style and the way you feel attracted to, you might find something there. Green Witch, Pagan Otherworlds, Tarot of the Old Path... each has a specific energy. I usually find that I get a certain tingle when I see a deck that's right for me... the tingle is not always right, sometimes a deck falls a bit flat when I meet it, but I don't buy a deck without the tingle. And you can watch unboxing videos on Youtube, that gives quite a good impression of a deck's energy :-)
