Visconti Modrone Tarot - Lo Scarabeo
Lo Scarabeo have a new Kickstarter for the Visconti Modrone. Looks like it will be a beautiful edition and perfect for lovers of historical decks.

Strange that Lo Scarabeo would fund a deck through Kickstarter.

Is it? Why so? Have they not done that before?

They're well established, they have a high profile, Kickstarter takes a cut...
I suppose that getting the money up front means you have definite sales and can print an edition that will sell out, but I was surprised to see this. They may well have have done it before, but I don't follow Kickstarter and hadn't heard.

I suppose they are following the success of their tarot compendium...
It’s been advertised on their Facebook page too and there must be some commercial advantage for them to produce it this way.

Re: Visconti Modrone Tarot - Lo Scarabeo
It might be for a similar reason as some of the 'big' board game companies that use kickstarter.
There's a handful of companies that use KS even though they have the potential ability to fund it completely in house.
I remember some of their reasoning from the FAQ.
It lets them do some more 'daring' stuff, that maybe they wouldn't chance otherwise.
It lets them maybe do even MORE than they had planned (stretch goals are a thing, after all).
It's a way of generating buzz and interest.
Maybe this company has the same kind of idea?
