help with a love spread
Hello all,
I'm brand new to this forum and to tarot in general. I am practicing on myself at the moment with daily card and just looking at them and gauging an interpretation.
Today I have decided to do a reading on myself. I recently went through a breakup and wanted to know what the future holds for myself and my ex. And it came back with this.. I have read all sorts about each card but now.. I'm just confused!! I think it's because about me it's made me look too far into the meanings and possible messages. All cards were upright. Can anyone shed a little light on what the messages are in these cards.. as you don't know the situation as I do. Really appreciate your help in advance
My question was "what's going to happen with me and him in the future, I'd like some insight, is he coming back"
My interpretation in short would be that with communication and over coming obstacles we have, we could reunite and be the happy 10 of cups. On the other hand, it could mean from things I've read that the 10 of cups could signify that it's the end, but a happy one with no grudges or regrets etc...

Re: help with a love spread
Hi RingofRoses!
Welcome to the forum!
What deck do you use?
You mentioned this reading had other cards besides the 10 of Cups. What were they and how were they positioned? As the end result of reading about a relationship, the 10 of Cups is usually really auspicious. But the entire spread will tell a bit of a story.
When it comes to readings about break-ups in general, usually the reconciliation will come after a challenge or obstacle is addressed and something changes. Are there cards before that 10 of Cups that make you think of that and what it might be and do you see a suggestion on how to attack it.
If you'd like, I can post a spread specifically for looking at relationships that includes positionals that ask the right questions to get a better, deeper understanding and you could try another reading. If the same cards appear again, that would be significant.

Re: help with a love spread
Thank you SO much.. that would be very helpful.
It's all a little much when you start isn't it? I get a great vibe and trust my interpretations when just randomly pulling to learn.
My reading as a 5 card cross spread.
1- 2 of cups
2- 6 of pentacles
3- The Hanged man
4- 8 of pentacles
5- 10 of cups
For clarification I asked again a few days later and got... (With a 7 card spread someone told me to try)
1- wheel of fortune
2- 8 of pentacles
3- Ace of cups (reversed)
4- 3 of cups
5- 5 of wands
6- the world
7- judgement (reversed)
More confused than ever
Thank you so much for your reply and offer to help with more info. Really appreciate it oh and I used the smith-waite cards

Nothing wrong with that! Random pulls of 1-2 cards to answer a question that just pops up really is a good way to learn. Since you are using a RWS deck, there are so many online resources available too I would just keep a tarot journal if you don't already and writing down or typing out notes for the cards. The one I've got going currently on Penzu is 80 days strong which is a record for me, lol.Ringofroses wrote: ↑12 Dec 2020, 12:58 Thank you SO much.. that would be very helpful.

Yesterday, I was writing something for the website I've got going live in two weeks. "A spread is a method of laying down cards in a specific order in a specific pattern to enhance a reader’s ability to answer questions." Each card slot in the spread is meant to give the reader and querent a piece of information that works as a sentence in a paragraph: you need them all to tell the story. Otherwise, it's a jumble of words.
My reading as a 5 card cross spread.
1- 2 of cups
2- 6 of pentacles
3- The Hanged man
4- 8 of pentacles
5- 10 of cups
So here is a five card cross relationship spread. This one has these positionals:
1. Your place in the relationship/ perspective: 2 of Cups
2. Your partner's place/ perspective: 6 of Pentacles
3. The foundations of the relationship: The Hanged Man
4. Present state /issues between you: 8 of Pentacles
5. The likely outcome: 10 of Cups
Now looking at your original reading with every card tying to something specific, its a lot easier for me as a fellow reader to make an interpretation. As an empath, even across the Internet, I have a pretty good idea of how ~you~ want things to go, but because I'm a strong empath, I need to rely on the structure for reading even more to make sure I'm able to separate myself from my querent's desires and give impartial accurate information.
1. Your place in the relationship: You are very committed to having a deep romantic connection with this other person
2. Your partner's perspective: This person has a focus on something besides you. It isn't a romantic focus, but it could easily be work, family, a cause of some kind where they are very busy doing something they feel is important at making some aspect of the world a better place.
(so right off the bat, I see both of you have different priorities as far as a romantic relationship together)
3. The foundation of the relationship: The Hanged Man is a hard card to interpret in a reading about a romantic relationship, because its a card of stasis and personal reflection. So if I was reading for a client, I'd actually pause and go "How did you both meet?" and that answer might spark something either in the events or just the way the client talked their tone and emotions.
4. Present state: 8 of Pentacles goes immediately straight back to #2 and 6 of Pentacles for me as a kneejerk intuitive response. I said your partner has a focus and this says that when you did your first reading? He was at work work work on whatever that focus was and had no time/energy to spare.
5, Likely outcome: 10 of Cups is a ~very~ auspicious card for you. Its basically the end goal for someone who starts with a 2 of Cups. So the message this entire reading gives me personally is "This is a great person but he's terribly busy right now and the best thing you can do is be patient, supportive and just let things be casual or even platonic, be a good friend but keep in touch and show your affection because the future looks exceptional."

Hopefully, my thoughts about the first reading were insightful and triggered some ideas for you.Ringofroses wrote: ↑12 Dec 2020, 12:58 For clarification I asked again a few days later and got... (With a 7 card spread someone told me to try)

My suggestion would be to grab that 7 card spread someone told you to try and type out the positionals the way I did your first reading and then type out what each of them means the same way in another post and that way we can all give our impressions of your thoughts and the situation and help with the specific parts that seem the most confusing.
Typing my self-readings to myself, basically doing for my own daily reading the same thing I just did for yours in my journal usually helps me more in both getting insights and retaining them (not to mention being able to flip back at the end of the day or situation and going "OHHH! That's what that was about!")

Re: help with a love spread
Dearest TheLoracular,
Thank you so much for your in depth reply, thank you for spending your time on helping me.
I love the way you've done this..
When I get some time (probably after Xmas) I will get my cards out to the 7 card spread I did and really get stuck in. I'll post back what I get and you can have a look with me if possible. I enjoy tarot, I've always been quite spiritual and although right now don't feel this is "natural" to me.. I feel it can be in the future. I think I doubt myself and my ability more than I should. Please share this website information with me, I find a connection with how you've read. I'd love to hear more of your insights.
Can I ask... How would you place that into a matter of timing. I did a reading for a neighbor and she asked about timing.i tried to Google it but not feeling confident in the things I've read, they're so different. I did a timing on this and pulled 10 of swords, then I did it again and pulled another 10 card... The wheel of fortune.. swords mean years??? I don't see this being years.. could it be swords and Aquarius, meaning 19 Jan - 19 Feb??
Thank you so much again, I'll get on this as soon as I can.. wish me luck. Have a wonderful Christmas

Re: help with a love spread
I enjoyed it and it was good practice for me. I retired as a professional reader & life coach in 2013 for health and other reasons but since September, I've been working my way back into being a tarot content creator and tarot teacher/coach as a hobby. This forum has been exceptionally helpful in convincing me that this is a much better use of my time than roleplaying games or the FFXIV MMO. XD.Ringofroses wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 22:13 Dearest TheLoracular,

Enjoy the holidays. I'd be happy to have a look at it with you. Trust me, I understand exactly what you mean in what you just said above.Ringofroses wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 22:13 Dearest TheLoracular,

I will be posting about it here on the forum on January 1st after it goes officially live and will happily chatter to interested people about it and its content after that. I'm feeling irrationally paranoid (my self-readings say it will launch fine) and want to get it fine-tuned and ready and officially open, then promote it. LOL. I am not using it to promote myself as a professional reader though; I've retired from that, so I'm not looking for clients. I just really love helping people like you learn tarot and writing about esoteric tarot is my own way of being a student of the deeper mysteries of life.Ringofroses wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 22:13 Please share this website information with me, I find a connection with how you've read. Context is everything for me when it comes to timing. I intentionally don't do forecasts for anything longer than a year ahead when I do a reading because I believe fate is chaotic and its a lot easier to see where things are headed for a week or a month or in a very general way, for a year. I have never been a fan of trying to use suits to designate periods of time except this one way, based on seasons and how I learned to associate these thingsRingofroses wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 22:13 Can I ask... wands = fire = spring to me (or wands could to be smoothly and "soon"")
swords = air = summer to me(or swords could to be complicated and "soon")
cups = water = fall to me (or water could to be complicated and "not for a while")
pentacles= earth= winter to me (or earth could to be smoothly and "not for a while")
There are other ways to associate the suits and elements to the seasons or directions around the wheel and none of them are right or wrong; I think the only thing that matters is you find what feels right for yourself and then apply it consistently to "when can I expect this to happen".
