Coloring & Using my B.O.T.A deck

Post by TheLoracular »

So yesterday, by new B.O.T.A deck arrived. It had me excitedly pulling out of my closet my tarot correspondence course from back in the 1990s. I have a very soft spot in my heart for Paul Foster Case. To anyone not familiar, this is a black and white deck that is a gently modified variant of the RSW; Mr. Case was Mr. Waite's contemporary and they had a (friendly I think) disagreement about certain symbols and attributions.

The B.O.T.A deck is plain unlaminated cardstock. This is a study deck that will wear out quickly being used for readings. I know because I've owned it in the past. The idea is that you color it yourself, either using suggested and classical colors or making it fit your paradigm. I've colored the major arcana in the past- bigger ones.

Looking at this new deck, I'm not sure I want to color it at all. In fact, I'm having a strong urge to just put card protectors on each one and set it aside for research, meditation and affirmations. I know B.O.T.A sells downloadable pdf of the cards so for just a few dollars, I could print them all out and color away without nimming over making "mistakes" and experiment to my heart's content.

What do other folks think?
Tarot is a great and sacred arcanum- its abuse is an obscenity in the inner and a folly in the outer. It is intended for quite other purposes than to determine when the tall dark man will meet the fair rich widow.”

an excellent idea in my book. I've had the RWS download to color for years, but never have, my box of 8 basic crayolas just doesn't seem to do justice to the idea.
I did though, color the original pages in the book to the original Mythic, and it was very enlightening. Go for it! I had a set of 24 colored pencils at the time.
