New Rider-Waite deck

Post by RobinMarie »

Hello and thank you for providing me an opportunity to learn from your community. I just bought my first tarot deck, and I noticed the Page of Cups card is misspelled. Is this unique?

I've never seen anything like that. What version of the deck is this? Where did you get it?
I believe in Crystal Light.

Welcome RobinMarie!

Huh, that is interesting. I've never encountered that personally.
Tarot is a great and sacred arcanum- its abuse is an obscenity in the inner and a folly in the outer. It is intended for quite other purposes than to determine when the tall dark man will meet the fair rich widow.”

Welcome and thanks for joining us.

Haha! I have never seen a typo quite that bad on a tarot card before.
That's pretty crazy. The colors look a little strange too.

Can I ask where you got this deck and/or what it's called?

There are many iterations of the RWS where people have some fun with the art (see for example Winter Waite or Waite on Acid

But this one you posted looks like a kind of bad print to be honest.

A more accurate image would be like this:

Although some fluctuation in color between print runs and publishers happens, this one you posted seems a little off, and the typo is kind of a red flag- But it is unique!

I bought the deck with a cloth and a pendant on Amazon. I thought it was the Rider-Waite deck.

I have now fallen down the tarot rabbit hole and I am fully committed to studying all I can about this wonderful art. I've already ordered my second deck- it's called Legends and I can't wait to get it.

Thank you all for responding- I will take the "R" as a sign that this deck is truly meant for me- RobinMarie. ;)

Taking note of the modern font used, this card appears very similar to the Rider Tarot. I have the version in the large yellow box with the spread sheet, and aside from the misspelling it looks like a match:

Also, I noticed that mine has the US Games copyright on the lower right hand part of the border while yours doesn't have any. The card back would usually be a clue if it's an earlier edition or if it's something entirely different.

Well, there are lots of versions other than the US games printings. The images are public domain in some parts of the world and, also, depending on which version of the deck one has, an owner of an original has the right to reprint/reproduce its images. My understanding is that such a situation is the source for the Vintage Pam.
I believe in Crystal Light.
