Work in Progress - Nemia
Work in Progress - Nemia
I feel totally insecure here!!! My doodles are really inadequate but they come from the bottom of my unconscious and I know they want to tell me something. I don't know though whether other people can see it, too.
These are just first sketches - I'm experimenting right now with colours and try to develop these doodles. No idea where it will lead me. I gave them first tentative titles.
The only reason I put these things out at all (after the amazing things I saw from others who are real artists!) is Joan Marie's work with the Spirit Doodle deck.
Rhythms. I had great fun with this. There's movement to all directions, in different rhythms. Activity, experimentation, going forward and backward at the same time. Cautious optimism.
Gifted Hands. Inspired by the Hand of Fatima/Chamsa. Each finger has a different gift or talent. Using them all mindfully brings luck.
Fragile. A mobile shaken - shortly before breaking point - but holding up. Sometimes fragility survives better than robustness - as long as it's flexible.
Earthquake. The world we leave behind is breaking up, everything's falling apart. We have to save ourselves. There is no way back.
Deep Dreams. They may bring lucidity or give birth to ideas and feelings. In our dreams, we know more than when awake.
Veil in space. There's a shower going through the world that nobody seems to feel. But it's there. Other changes will follow.
Peristalsis of hope and despair. I drew this while listening to a documentary about a horrible case of disappearing children. I called it peristalsis of hope and despair. Peristalsis moves materials through the dark. Our body takes what it needs and discards the rest.
Is there anything with potential?

They're all wonderfully subtle and deep, surprising too. I especially like Gifted Hands and Deep Dreams, and the Veil in Space speaks to me too. Do they need colour? It might be interesting to experiment, but I think they could work well without it, especially if the contrast were increased. I love the thought that they were created from your unconscious.

These are all just ... riveting.
I honestly don't know the right adjective.
I am so moved by each one of these.
Blown away.

You are very artistically gifted Nemia, these are fabulous! I love Deep Dreams and Veil in Space. And I agree with Pen, I like the b&w.
Re: Work in Progress - Nemia
Thank you all for your kind words! I'm trying all kind of things to develop the images further, and the ideas in my head. I had very little time lately but now the situation has improved and I hope I'll have some undisturbed hours
Re: Work in Progress - Nemia
I'm still working - don't know how many cards I'll make in the end - I'm trying a lot of things and wow, I notice what a mistake it was to let art-making slip for so many years. things that were once easy-peasy seem impossible now.
I really have no idea yet what will be the outcome, but I draw, paint and dug up some old works. I feel like cutting up and collaging lots of different things, somehow it feels right to tear up things and re-arrange them freely, like fragments of dreams.
An old etching I made many years ago - raw material!
Playing around with water colours.
Something will get done!

I know what you mean about letting art-making slip. I see things I drew and painted years ago and I can't even believe it was me.
Its intetesting though to work through it, feel the changes .

I made more progress today. Right now, I have two possible cards nearly ready - if they're not good enough, please have no mercy and tell me so.
I didn't scan them yet, these are simply pictures I took with my phone.
Sea of Dreams - not much work left, I'll scan it tomorrow.
Your Path - I hope I'll finish it tomorrow. I found a quotation by Joseph Campbell today that seems to fit: “If you can see your path laid out in front of you step by step, you know it's not your path. Your own path you make with every step you take. That's why it's your path.”
I have an idea for a third card but first I have to finish those two.

Here is a third idea: the Eye of God, inspired by Meister Eckhard's words: The eye with which I see God is the same with which God sees me. My eye and God's eye is one eye, and one sight, and one knowledge, and one love.
Would it fit into the deck?

That's great! I can't believe I contributed three cards! Some months ago, I was deadly frightened of ANY art materials!
Re: Work in Progress - Nemia
Echo... I love the combination of colours too, in spite of liking the original black and white. And why not think about creating your own wonderfully original deck too...? You could certainly do it.

Re: Work in Progress - Nemia
nemia,
I'm sorry i didn't get these added to the finished work, I'm doing it right now.
They are just so inspired.
Beautiful.
I've added several pieces lately.
This deck is a stunner.
EDIT: I see I DID add the first 2, adding the 3rd now. So many things going on! It's great though!
