Re: Art that Reminds You of a Tarot Card
Thank you Nemia for your commentary regarding the Cosmic.
I have a much better appreciation and understanding now.
I always wondered why Norbert Lösche used dancers in some of his wands and swords cards.
Would you agree that his Queen of Swords is possibly Ingrid Bergman:

Re: Art that Reminds You of a Tarot Card
Oh yes, of course it is. And it really fits because Bergman played Joan of Arc. And Joan's symbol was the sword in the crown. It was Bergman's favourite role although the public didn't really like it.
Joan of Arc and her emblem
Cosmic Tarot, Ace of Swords
Ingrid Bergman as Joan of Arc
Queen of Swords, Ingrid Bergman
I love this deck, and three years ago, I wrote down everything I found on Tumblr... and since then, I found some more

Re: Art that Reminds You of a Tarot Card
William-Adolphe Bouguereau "Seated Bather" as 10/Cups
I went to your Tumblr link:
The male dance partner for Tanaquil Le Clercq at the NYC Ballet was Jacques d'Amboise.
I read some interesting commentary/art critiques regarding Bouguereau, some say he used to be considered "boring"
but he has now been "re-discovered"
Gloria Jean (Infinite Visions Tarot) used Bouguereau's "Dante et Virgile au Enfers (Dante and Virgil in Hell)" as the template for her "Devil" card which I always admired because of its profound, yet understated originality.

Oh, lovely!
Actually, two artists I really love made great tarot-affine art.
Aubrey Beardsley:
Isolde looks like an Empress or Queen of Pentacles
And Salome like a Queen of Swords.... or is it too much? thoth went far enough, but the head could be read as mask....
and I love Leon Bakst, the great costume designer for the magical Ballets de Russe.
A Devil who is as much tempted as tempting
And a strong, powerful Sun or Queen of Wands - the Firebird.
Wow, I love this thread!!!!

3 of Cups anyone?
Here are 2 lovely takes on the 2 of Cups (unfortunately both uncredited)
And this last one is a bit indirect, but I saw/felt the 5 of Cups right away.

This concept was already used by Folchi in his deck Tarocco Della Felicita.

Might there be a possible correlation between the famous statue of Laocoön and his Sons and the Dellarocca Devil?

What do you think of this as a Moon card?

I really love this.
This painting makes me think of the 8 of Swords, but in a kind of more wry, intense empowered way.
EDIT: (This was posted on facebook by Shilo Lewis but it isn't her work. I don't know the artist.)

That reminds me of the 10/wands, Robert Place and the depiction of Hercules on his funeral pyre:

Re: Art that Reminds You of a Tarot Card
Ever look at a painting and wonder what happened just before or just after the scene depicted?
I just saw this and the first thing that came to mind, is this was the scene just before the Devil card happened.

Interesting, what is the source of that image and the precise context?Joan Marie wrote: ↑10 May 2020, 18:54 Ever look at a painting and wonder what happened just before or just after the scene depicted?

At first glance it is vaguely reminiscent of certain elements of the Lovers card, but it doesn't quite fit because the woman is attired in a demure fashion.

It's just a random thing I saw on twitter. There was only this information: BnF, Français 166, 15th c.

Re: Art that Reminds You of a Tarot Card
I saw this illustration by Charles Robinson long ago and it has been my ideal Five of Pentacles ever since. It was an original watercolour for The Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde, published by Duckworth (1913).

The Tyrant, from Ambrogio Lorenzetti's The Allegory of Bad Government, fresco, Sala Dei Nove, Siena, 1338 -1339.
Wouldn't this make a killer Devil Card?
