This morning I cut them down, their now colourless heads, heavy with seeds.
They brought a lot of joy this summer, like a little sea of suns attracting all variety of bees and bumble bees and little birds who perched on their sturdy stems.
I felt sad as I cut them down, I felt like I was cutting down the summer itself. Yesterday it still felt like summer here, the only betrayal being my beautiful suns all leaning over as if they were trying to plant their own seeds to reemerge again in the spring.
The weather here today is grey and blustery yet still a little warm. I feel the change of season coming.
