Chronotypes and Tarot Reading

Post by Papageno »

There are any number of articles and scientific studies....none of which are comprehensive, by the way.....regarding Chronotypes.

Essentially, are you a day person or a night owl.....and how do you think that has any bearing, if at all, on an individuals
approach to reading the tarot?

Chronotype.....a chronotype is a person’s....."circadian typology"......ooooooh there's some big words for ya LOL.

Let's not waste time debating the sweeping generalizations regarding IQ's ....mental health....creativity and other traits
of either chronotypes because this is TAROT related.....and all the reports and articles conflict with one another.....some say night owls die young (which is one the stupidest thing I've ever heard.....seriously, breathing these days is dangerous to your health)....and the venerable NY Times, disagrees.

Anyway......it seems to me, that there may well indeed be important distinguishing personality traits (and perhaps even physiological factors) that might influence perception and other cognitive functions....hence, a difference in how one perceives any given image....and how that may affect a readers interpretation of a particular card or spread.

....just a thought

I think most of the data gathered about "night owls" dying at a higher rate is from night shifters having higher mortality rates. But arguably this is from danger inherent in those professions in which night work is more prevalent (i.e blue collar work) and among whose population perhaps healthy living isn't exactly a lifestyle. I would take these findings with a grain of salt.

I do.

with that being said....I realize that this topic is inherently difficult, although it makes for potentially interesting discussion.

Essentially, I wonder what percentage of tarot reader/collectors describe themselves as night owls and what the remaining percentiles are for people who identify either as daytime individuals or....somewhere in-between.

we can attempt to break it down even further....tarot artists....professional readers

now, here's a really loaded question.....which group makes for better readers..... night owls or daytime folk .....and even then, we have to consider, is a particular approach to reading, ie. predictive, analytical, etc.....predicated upon your chronotype?

it would be kinda fun to take a poll of the members here and see how many people identify within each category.......admittedly
it doesn't serve any purpose other than satisfying ones curiosity.....and out of the vast number of members, we would only get a response from a tiny fraction from that list.

I go to sleep early and wake up very early, usually before 4 a.m. Does this make me a night owl? Probably not, though I suppose I'm only diurnal by force. So I'm not sure what to call myself. I'd probably be nocturnal if I had the choice. Who's to say which I am?

Also, who's to say if I'm a good card reader though? I think I'm good.

For argument's sake I'd say by nature I'm nocturnal.

I'm a night owl and have always been one. I remember as a little girl slipping out of bed at night to sit in the silent living room on the windowsill to look outside... and the euphoria after a night without sleep! My creative juices always flow better at night.

I had to teach myself to live in the day world, and I get up early enough to get a whiff of the mysterious "night feeling" when I get up very very early. By now, I have nearly managed to change my preference - but whenever I can, I slip into night owl mode again.

My sleep is best when there's sunlight on my legs and around me, everyday noises, espcially children. I get an energy low before midday, and another one in the afternoon. Nowadays, I can't afford daytime naps but I'm aware of the waves in my energies.

I get tarot feelings when it's dark although I did afternoon readings that were okay. But at night, my senses are sharper.

I'm definitely diurnal. As soon as it starts to gets dark my body and brain want nothing more to do with the day. 😏 Certainly nothing productive.

For months, I've been a morning person. Waking up between 5-7 am and wanting to be productive within a half hour has been my current norm. I've been feeling a lot more positive and creative than I was before this transition took place. Before, I was getting up between 8-10 am and a lot less motivated.

No specific event caused it. Same amount of anxiety/outrage/worry about the world there's been for an entire year. Just less sleep and yet a lot more "wands" and archetypal fire to my day.
Tarot is a great and sacred arcanum- its abuse is an obscenity in the inner and a folly in the outer. It is intended for quite other purposes than to determine when the tall dark man will meet the fair rich widow.”
