10S indicates a difficult situation or relationship moving towards it outer limits prior to the end of such, the lovers rv indicates the end of the relationship/connection and the empress rv indicates a loveless relationship without potential for growth. In it's upright position the empress for a man is the woman of his dreams and in the rv aspect this is just not so and there's no hope here seemingly. The card combination may also indicate sex without love in the empress rv, a negative or unhealthy relationship in the lovers rv and his intention in the 10S may of been to stab you in the back once his sexual needs or the novelty had worn thin, sorry.
