OSHO Zen Tarot: An Apology

I guess it isn't really an apology, but kind of. I misjudged this deck and now I want to clarify.

I just bought this deck, The OSHO Zen a few months ago on a whim. I'd heard a lot about it.
I used it for my deck of the week right when I got it and I think I gave the OSHO the short-shrift and I would like to correct that.

I recall spending a bit of time complaining about the box. And at the time, I just wasn't feeling the deck. I thought it felt too simplistic maybe, not sure if I admitted that at the time, but that was how it felt.

But then just yesterday I was experiencing a bit of a "dark night of the soul." Nothing too serious, just some general self-doubt, that kind of thing, and as I was doing a little investigation, a bit of shadow-dancing, when the words of OSHO were brought into my view and this made me go for the deck.

Well, it hit totally differently this time. Words and images that I had been kind of dismissive of back when I got it, suddenly were filled with a depth and meaning that I really need right now. I think I'm going to be with the deck for at least a few days as I work through some things.

It just goes to show how important it is keep your decks in mind and appreciate their qualities will be exactly what you need at different times. people who create decks put a lot more into them than we are always able to appreciate right away. There are layers and layers of depth there but we need to have the right eyes at the right time.

I'm still not crazy about the box. But the box is not the deck. The OSHO Zen Tarot is a beautiful gift to our souls, there for when we need it.

I've had this deck for a while and think it's fabulous. It's one of my go-to decks. The images may look quite simplistic but my experience is like you say, there is so much depth and meaning that comes through. I'm so glad I discovered it and it's helped me on my tarot journey.

Happy you give Osho Zen 2nd Chance! I also had qualms with card designs as it often don't fit tarot at all but it's still my fav guidebook ever it's well worth it for all wisdom it shares!

This is one of my favorite decks. Some of the readings I've had with it really hit the nail on the head.

Aside from the book included in the kit, I also use the other companion tome, Tarot in the Spirit of Zen which is also by Osho. It's not an absolute must-have, though it helped deepen my understanding of the cards since it presents them in another light.

Having gotten to reading this thread today, I grabbed my Osho Zen tarot off the shelf. It had been a very long time since I'd done anything significant with it (possibly never) and going through and reviewing 20 boxed-as-they-were-bought tarot decks last week left me muddy on which boxes had made me go "ugh" with the intent to store differently.

Osho Zen was happy to remind me. I started to lift them out and they practically flew in the air to land in a haphazard pile on the floor. LOL. This gave me the opportunity to look at a good chunk of them at once. I'd collected but never really read with this deck, but it suddenly felt like that should change and -this- should be a deck I start to use to read for myself. There is depth to its simplicity I did not see before reading this thread.

However, my Osho Zen made it very clear to me that it doesn't like the box it came in either So we just made a pact: I read its beautiful and well-written companion book (and that is definitely a companion book, not a pamplet) tomorrow and put it on my tarot library shelf vs keeping with the deck. I let the deck itself have a better home and it will help me with personal insight drawing on more Eastern influences than I normally use but should be embracing.
