There are 56 Minor Arcana cards, sixteen Court or Personality cards; the Kings, Queens, Princes and Pages, just like modern playing cards. There are four elements or suits: Fire, Earth, Air and Water, with 10 cards in each. There are no inherently negative cards. There are many ways of working with the deck.

The meat and potatoes of the Tarot are the 22 Major Arcana. You mention only the minor, above, yes. Put them all together and you get the 78 cards of the full deck.

Some people read with just these 22 cards. I've heard that some may read with just 56, but this is rare. Of course there are other cartomancers that use just a playing card deck of 52 cards (sometimes 53 or 54 when they add one or two Jokers, to taste.)
