Colorized Mantegna

Post by Maskelyne »

Four years ago I tried coloring a Mantegna card in Photoshop. Now that I've done the whole deck, I've started preparing the images for printing. If anyone is interested, I'll make them publicly available on Gamecrafter.

The line art is from scans of original E-series prints.

I like the bright colors. It makes everything easier to see. And it looks good, too, of course! And are the colors symbolic? That would be an extra added attraction!

Some of the colors were chosen for their symbolism or common association with the subject, some were copied from medieval or renaissance paintings, some are more or less naturalistic, and some are because it seemed appropriate or simply looked good to me at the time.
