The Numinous Tarot - Kickstarting a 2nd Printing
Posted: 06 Dec 2018, 22:18
Some of you have mentioned interest in The Numinous Tarot, the deck that appears in almost all of my readings posted here. The deck was wildly successful in its first Kickstarter, and the extras sold out rapidly after the artist made them available.
There's now a Kickstarter under way for a second printing.
The Kickstarter page includes images of all the cards, as well as links to many reviews of the deck so you can evaluate whether you want to add it to your collection.
This is the deck I always come back to, no matter how many other decks I try. That's highly subjective, of course, but if you've read my readings you know how much I personally respond to the images. I also really value the thoughtfulness of the guide book (which is a full-sized paperback book you could put on a shelf by itself), as well as the particular way this artist tries to de-emphasize the gendering of the courts and cards like the Emperor and Empress while still preserving their fundamental characteristics. It really opened up the courts in particular for me.
As for physical deck quality (since it sounds like that won't change) I found that the glossy finish was a little sticky at first, but it broke in quickly. It's large for my very small hands, but not especially large as Tarot decks go.
The only thing I don't love is how big the box has to be to accommodate the book- I don't store the deck in the box for that reason, but it's very sturdy packaging for shipment.
(If you're in Europe and the shipping on this Kickstarter makes things prohibitive for you, no doubt Little Red Tarot will re-stock this deck from this printing; it was wildly popular there.)
Suffice it to say, this deck has been really important to my tarot practice, and I'd love to see the second printing be as well-supported as the first. (I'm giving serious thought to backing it just to get a second copy of the deck that I can stash away for safekeeping; I reflexively overbuy stuff I rely on.)
