Here is some more TdM commentary from my blog, this time involving the opinion that Batons and Swords are "hard" suits and Cups and Coins are "soft" in contrast:

This all makes perfect sense to me. Water and earth feel instinctively different to fire and air. More homely and comforting somehow though I realise that sounds ridiculous.

That’s a good article. Have you also come across the idea of ascending/descending in assigning how beneficial a pip is? For example, the Swords have the Ace as the absolute ‘worst of the worst’ and gradually get better until we reach the ten.
I’m one of those people who has odd elemental associations to the pips. Back on the old AT forum someone shared an image depicting the 4 humours which shared symbols of the TdM and now I can’t ‘unsee’ it.
I use:
Epees - Choleric - Fire
Coupes - Sanguine - Air
Batons - Melancholic - Earth
Deniers - Phlegmatic - Water

I haven't but I''m familiar with "trick-taking" card games where the red suits have the Aces as worst and the Tens as best, and the black suits just the opposite. So in Spades and Clubs the Ace would beat the Ten.
I seem to recall that Joseph Maxwell also considered the Batons to be Earth, but I forget the rest of his assignments.
