Re: Do you use your cards 'unconventionally'?

I selected 'No, I've considered it but never tried'. I like to stick to a fairly conventional method of reading, at least according to my definition - because I think if I did something drastically different I would only feel I was fooling myself, like cheating at a video game or something. Then aga...

Re: The Divine Sentence Game

My question: "How can I increase my confidence?" With the Archeon Tarot: 8 of Swords and Ace of Wands "When feeling a lack of confidence, imagine it as temporary binds holding you back, and then visualise your strength of will and creativity burning through and allowing you to be pas...

Re: TdM Holiday Fortune Circle

Cheers Charlotte - and with the Madenié, too, a real classic TdM. Certainly looks like a challenging time ahead then....! So much for fun Christmas merry making. Of course, with a name like Sinister, I don't know what you'd expect. ;) Ha, very true! I prefer Krampus to Santa anyway.

Re: Anima Antiqua

I own the Mitelli now myself, it's definitely a spectacular reproduction. It says that the cards have "not been treated with chemical varnish, so may not be suitable for shuffling", which I assume is also the case with the other ones in the Anima Antiqua series. Has anyone experienced any...

Re: TdM Holiday Fortune Circle

I'd better prepare myself for all these choices in the new year then, now it's been confirmed! I like this "quick and dirty" (oo-er!) approach too, it's been a refreshing exercise. There's certainly something to be said for "classical cartomancy", particularly using historical pr...

Re: Esoteric or ordinary interpretations

Same here, really. I think reading TdM is quite liberating in that sense, particularly with the minors/pips. Whereas with the imagery on the RWS, cards like the 3 or 10 of Swords are rather in your face.

Re: What parameters do you follow for buying a deck?

It's interesting to read posts by Sinister and Amaroso; these are essentially "old school" ideals which is perfectly fine, no argument here. I might add that in keeping with this line of thought the necessity of a companion book is a moot point. One might even say that you should be able ...

Re: TdM Holiday Fortune Circle

I'll give it a go, seems like an interesting/fun exercise. So before we start doing it for real, here's my initial attempt to see if I've got the hang of it. Is writing it like this OK: Le Mat Chariot, 4 of Swords 4 of Cups, 6 of Wands, 9 of Wands 2 of Cups Message: A new or existing partnership wil...

Re: Dark Decks

The Royo Dark Tarot has some reasonably dark fantasy artwork, taken from Luis Royo's pre-existing work, which is very aesthetically pleasing to me - also love the Archeon Tarot from Timothy Lantz, where he uses photo collage to create quite a modern gothic looking work. I don't have many dark decks ...

Re: Tarot of Marseille by J. C. Hes (Germany, c. 1750)

Fantastic looking historical deck! And interesting to learn that Mozart was an avid player of Tarot. I was also interested to see that the Emperor card is numbered as "4" instead of "IIII", whereas the other Trumps/Majors have Roman numerals. I think that's also the case with the...

Tarot of the Ages, opinions?

Tarot of the Ages is a really intriguing deck to me. I think it was released in 1993 but to me it has a 70s look to it, and has inspiration from Egyptian, Aztec, African and Viking cultures among others. Anyone here own it? How do you find it to read with?

Re: What parameters do you follow for buying a deck?

For my taste, I want the card titles in a Tarot deck to follow one of the older traditions. So, either Batons, Wands, Rods etc. is fine, but calling it 'Electric Poles' or something is offputting to me! And, I want - for example - The Devil to be The Devil (or El Diablo, or Le Diable etc) and not re...

About the picture of the different World cards in the opening post: I recognise the Wirth, the Visconti and the Grand Etteilla, but does anyone know what decks any of those other World cards are from? Some of them look a bit familiar.

Re: Decks For Men

I'm not sure what exactly makes a deck specifically for men or women. If something speaks to you then go for it. Speaking for myself, I think the classic decks tend to resonate with how I understand my masculine energy: RWS, Thoth, a quality Marseille. I agree with this completely. It depends on th...

So is it like a modern version of the Minchiate? I don't know how people use the extra cards in that but I assume it's a similar idea. It is. Very nice and good to see them re-releasing the Sola Busca. I hope that Lo Scarabeo also do the Tarocchi Neoclassico one day, as a part of their Anima Antiqua series.. they used to do one called the Ancient Tarot of Lombardy but I think it's out of print now.

Re: NEW MEMBERS - Tell us your Tarot Story

Well met, all. My first introduction to Tarot was my mother's 1JJ Swiss Tarot, when I was very young, back in the late 70s/early 80s. I remember being intrigued by the images - similar to 'normal' playing cards, but more mysterious. This would've been around the time that the programme Tales of the ...
