cartomancy and necromancy

Talking to the dead
I had an email recently about a course called cartomancy and necromancy. I wondered can we/do we/should we use the cards to talk to the dead?

Re: X ROUE DE FORTUNE / WHEEL OF FORTUNE and its handle

Flornoy suggests that the wheel image includes a reference to a torture device. Who turns the handle takes on a new meaning in this context. Curious. But interesting. Do you know what he based this on ? He gives the Key to the Arcarnum as: "The Breakdown of Outmoded Structures" And sees t...

Re: X ROUE DE FORTUNE / WHEEL OF FORTUNE and its handle

Often the wheel will come up for me when I am about to repeat some pattern of behavior that has failed before. This does help me to avoid some repeat patterns. However some things are very deep rooted and hard to stop. I don't think I could stop collecting things. I collect: books, tarot decks, vinyl ...

I have not got round to this deck yet but I like the look of your work.

Re: Palmistry: An Introduction of Sorts

There is an exercise in ceramics where you shape a piece of clay without looking or thinking about it. Quite often a form will appear from this. The hands can have an intelligence/memory of their own. I think sometimes the hands express themselves when we handle tarot cards. The hands introduce som...

Re: altered tarot cards

Thanks for the comment. Feedback is important with these things. The design came from the idea of the majors as cathedral windows. I wanted to make images that used the nature of the computer screen as opposed to the nature of print. The computer image is painted with light and stained glass seems t...

Very interesting. Thinking about synchronicity it might connect to the reading you did where X!!! was next to the Eight of swords.

The idea for these started from a stained glass effect.

Re: Some Thoughts on Shadow Work

Rather, my point is that we have some extremely real enemies outside of ourselves and they can't be written off as "projections". We are living in a time where we need to make a stand and possibly hurt other beings, if said beings are abusing others. nobody is saying that they are all pro...

Re: Predefined vs non predefined spreads

I mostly read freeform asking questions and pulling cards. Sometimes a spread will show something I am missing through not asking the right questions I find the 'cross and triangle' and the 21 card block useful in this regard.

Re: Some Thoughts on Shadow Work

I like Jungs idea that the shadow is what we can't face in ourselves. We project it on other people and then hate them for it.

Re: Marseilles and coloring vs pip deck

Flornoy thinks the colors matter a lot "The images and their titles speak to our intellect, the colors to our unconscious" from Seeing the World He is talking about the Noblet when he gives the following rhyme White, the tears of Maitre Jacques, Black, the earth that bore him, Red, the blo...

computer readings

While I love actual decks I also use computer readings. By this I mean letting the computer draw cards from a virtual deck. It does not give an interpretation that is something I do myself. The program I use is the orphalese tarot. It is shareware and you can see it here: http://orphalese.net/ This ...

Re: The Greenwood Tarot

I have the Wildwood and like it very much. If there was a morally acceptable re-print of the Greenwood, I'd snatch it up :-) I like the more primitive, pre-modern look and feel of the Greenwood. I don't use my Wildwood much although it's beautiful, well-thought out and Celtic lore interests me. It'...

Re: used decks

As long as there are no missing cards, makes no difference to me. They're just cards with pictures on them. As long as the cards are not bent in the corners in such a way that I can guess which one it is. But I don't understand why someone wouldn't want to use a second hand deck. Am curious to find...

If you have digital images of your decks then it easy to have both. With a program like the orphalese tarot you can have both alternatives and use the one that suits the occasion for computer readings.

Re: Leonora carrington and the Tarot

Carrington produced Two plays. One called Penelope was staged by Alejandro Jodorowsky in 1957. I am trying to find out more about this. I would like to know how well she new Jodorowsky With him involved you might expect some tarot and there is a clear hanged man in the set which carrington designed....
