Re: The Visconti Magician's peculiar hat

WaterPuppy wrote: 20 Nov 2021, 13:06 Perhaps you care to post some of that on this forum?
I have in the past... but I have not met a lot of enthusiasm for my views... which is fine, of course, but therefore I do not post regularly anymore.

This insight was worth mentioning, I thought. :-)

The Visconti Magician's peculiar hat

All of a sudden I saw what the peculiar hat of the Visconti-Sforza Magician refers to: the caduceus, the staff of Hermes! :-) On my blog I elaborate on this subject and discuss the symbolism of more historical decks: https://www.anne-marie.eu/en/tarot-1-the-magician/ Visconti-Sforza Tarot deck circa...

Re: TdM Queen of Cups and the 'Little Window'

Hi Stan, interesting observation! I am currently studying the major arcana and have not looked into the minor arcana yet, but based on what I have found in the major arcana, these are my thoughts... The arcanum (mystery, secret) of the tarot is our possibility of realising the divine through a kunda...

The serpent is the universal symbol of the kundalini energy.
It lies at the core of the Arcana (Secret, Mystery) of the Tarot. (IMHO)

Is the red mantle on your card referring to the alchemist who has completed the magnum Opus?

Re: I - The Magician (RWS)

Pamela Colman-Smith has added a clue for tarot researchers to clarify the deeper meaning of this card. On the rim of the table, on the right, we see a rising bird. This is the dove of the Holy Spirit, which is also depicted on the Ace of Cups. However, we read in the Bible that the Holy Spirit, in t...

Re: XIV - Temperance (RWS)

The orange triangle within a square had special symbolic significance for Waite & the Golden Dawn but I don't remember what exactly. Hopefully someone else does. The triangle placed in a square, on the chest of the angel, probably represents fire (triangle) in earth (square). In other words: th...

Re: XII- Death (RWS)

My take on the symbolism of this card: The three figures in front of the horse have made themselves worthy of the grace of mystical death through diligent spiritual practice. The bishop refers to the card of the Hierophant: in him duality has merged into the oneness of the divine. He has conquered m...

Re: XII - The Hanged Man (RSW)

To me the colors red en blue of his clothing represent the merger of the male en female energies (inner duality). Hanging on one leg is a confirmation of this to me (2=1). The detail I like is his light/white hair, despite of his young face. I interpret this as a purification of his mind/thinking. h...

Re: VII The Chariot (RWS)

What I find an interesting detail is that the charioteer is part of the chariot. The chariot has the shape of a cube and seems to rest on the ground. The charioteer rises, as it were, from the cube. This symbolism refers to victory over matter / the body (the cube), comparable to the tarot Emperor w...

Re: VI - The Lovers

To me the symbolism of this card is about the inner process of the sacred marriage and the sublimation (transformation) of the sexual energies that is required for this inner union. As is - on a deeper level - the story of Adam and Eve. The man on the TdM card has to choose between sex (his left han...

Re: Four of Pentacles (RWS)

What I see is the emperor of the major arcana, with different symbolism. The man has conquered (he is king of) matter. The cube he is sitting on represents matter/earth in alchemy. The city in the background reinforces the symbolism of the cube: he is sitting on the city/materialism. The pentagram a...

Re: 10 of Swords (RWS)

The card could be about transformation, like the Death card. I am not sure, but there are some intriguing details on this card that hint at something positive. For instance, the hand that seems to make the sign of the sacred marriage: two fingers put together (2=1). Is it a coincidence that the swor...

Re: 5 of Cups (RWS)

There will probably be some sighing here and there, and rolling of eyes, because I seem to suffer from kundalini tunnel vision.... ;-) however I do think the whole major arcana is about the kundalini energy mystery. What I see in this card: The bridge in the backgroud is partly blocked from our view...

Re: Ace of Wands (RWS)

A hand coming from a cloud is, in iconografy, the Hand of God. To me all 4 aces are symbols of the (inner) divine. The sprouting wand could be a reference to Aaron's rod that sprouted (the kundalini was activated in his spine), which made him High Priest of God. This, of course, is literal symbolism...

Re: 4 of Swords (RWS)

If I put this card next to the symbolism that can be found in the Bible, I see this: The three standing swords are the three aspects of man: body, head/mind/thinking and heart/feelings/emotions. When Jesus is tempted three times in the desert, his body, head and heart are tempted. The fourth aspect/...

Re: 6 of Cups (RWS)

What I see is the inner sacred marriage (the fusion of the male and female energies) that takes place at the sixth chakra (six cups) during a spiritual awakening. The color red (male) and blue (female) of the clothes the boy wears, and the cross on the stone, also refer to the sacred marriage. The f...

I have analysed the symbolism on the Devil card, starting with the 15th century up to RWS: https://www.anne-marie.eu/en/tarot-15-the-devil/ My take on the RWS card is this (quote from the above blog): Artist Pamela Colman-Smith has the card refer unambiguously to the opposite of the divine again.
